Is it the government's responsibility to fight for the oppressed?!? Why or why not?

Yes, since the government is there for and made up of the people, it is their duty to protect the citizens from any threat. Once citizens rights and responsibilities, such as freedom of speech, press, than it gets illegal. That's when the citizens feel oppressed and when the governments steps in.
