The doctrine of predestination stems from Calvinism, a branch of Christianity. Other Christians like protestants and Catholics believed God will allow people to go to heaven when they start having faith. On the other hand, Calvinists believed God already decided if one goes to heaven even before birth. Back then, you would find many wealthy elites being Calvinists since it justifies their wealth, saying they were meant to be wealthy.
