if a supreme court justice were to argue using a precedent, he or she might cite other cases that came to similar conclusions.

In a precedent argument, situations that are similar or dissimilar will be shown. Argument from precedent is a type of case based reasoning where citing a specific case used in an attempt to argue for changing a current rule, or adding a new rule to add to existing rules.
