In order for us to make this an equation of the form y = mx + b we have to find the slope.

The formula for slope is rise/ run. The rise is 6 and the run is -1.

So, the slope is 6/-1 or -6.

Our equation is now: y = -6x + b

Substituting 4,7 into the equation we get 7 = -24 + b

So, b = 31.

To check out answers we substitute 5,1 in and it works.
