The correct answer is C. lasting.
Banquo was completely loyal to King Duncan, which is why he also had to die. Macbeth wanted to become King, which is why he had to kill Duncan before he could to that. However, he also knew that Banquo, his friend, would cause him trouble, so he had to do away with Banquo as well.
